A RIVER OF OPPORTUNITIES

MISSION STATEMENT

Establish a long-term partnership with HBCU/MEIs to provide technical support to DOE's environmental cleanup activities and, in turn, enhance the universities' curricula and business capabilities through hands-on experience.

HISTORY

HBCU/MEIs have provided the follow support tasks for the Department of Energy’s Environmental Management Mission:
Hydrogeological technical support and curriculum development using real-time projects as case studies
Glossary to standardize data reporting to DOE’s Waste Management Information System
Air National Guard bioremediation feasibility study
Pollution prevention opportunity assessments to identify waste minimization options at K-25 and ORNL
Development of a spatial database of contaminants in biota, water, and soil at ORNL

OBJECTIVES

To promote and provide opportunities for HBCU/MEIs in environmental science and technical support with DOE/ORO
Effluence curricular development through hands-on experience at the Oak Ridge Complex
To promote internship opportunities for HBCU/MEIs at DOE facilities
To execute the partnership between Lockheed Matin Energy Systems and DOE EM-Massie Chairs of Excellence DOE Massie Chairs (HBCU/MEIs) (HBCU/MEIs) to match and grow talents to meet the environmental management needs of DOE/ORO.

VISION/GOALS

Create a HBCU/MEIs Program Task Team, to provide innovative initiatives the DOE-ORO HBCU/MEI Program
To promote the HBCU/MEI Program ORO wide
Provide assistance to increase the minority enrollment toward higher education with minority students within the geographical area of DOE-ORO
Provide mentorship through the HBCU/MEIs Program for minority internships
Conduct a Annual meeting with the DOE Massie Chair Representatives to discuss solutions to Business Barriers between government and universities
Create partnerships with other groups and organizations that have similar missions
To establish a partnership with Roane State Community College to promote higher education to minority students in geographical area
