SELECTIVE PLACEMENT PROGRAM

Background

Discrimination against Federal Employees was prohibited in 1978 when Congress extended the nondiscrimination mandate of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to programs or activities conducted by Executive agencies and the US Postal Service. Most HQ and Field units of government have an identified Selective Placement Program Manager to assist in recruitment, placement, retention and accommodation of persons with disabilities.

Mission

To support the achievement of the OR mission through recruitment, placement, retention and accommodation of persons with disabilities to maximize diversity in the workplace.

Goals
Support healthy workplace for persons with disabilities
Maintain contacts in local community service organizations
Support annual abilities expo programs
Provide programs or speakers to increase awareness of disability issues
Maintain Jeffrey Scarbrough award recognition for employees that are recognized by peers to have overcome adversity.
Ensure persons in the workplace have advocate to support accommodation requirements

Planned Activities
National Disability Awareness Month Program
Continue contacts with local service agencies
Support Abilities EXPO and training for disabled in community to apply for and interview for positions with prospective employers
Support awareness and provide special speakers as appropriate
