Oak Ridge Labor-Management Prayer Breakfast donates $6,000 to Steps House, Inc.

The 16th annual Oak Ridge area prayer breakfast was held on December 5, 2014, at the Cokesbury Center on Kingston Pike in Knoxville. The event drew over 400 people who contributed $3,522 to the Steps House after hearing Patrick W. White, Founder and Chief Operating Officer speak about the history of the effort to help men who are in desperation and cannot obtain help elsewhere. From two houses to now 28 half-way type houses for these veterans and others who are at the bottom of their lives through drug and alcohol abuse or other similar difficulties, White told his compelling life story.

The speaker donated his honorarium and the committee added sufficient funds to round up the amount donated to $6,000. Here is a link to the Steps House, Inc. web site: www.stepshouse.net

For the first few years the annual event supported by local labor unions and companies with unions in the Oak Ridge area was held in various locations in Oak Ridge. However, each year the venue had to be changed to accommodate larger and larger crowds because of the ever increasing popularity of the event.

For a number of years, no donations were asked, however, in the past several years donations have been requested and passed on to Second Harvest Food Bank and also other organizations that provide help to the needy.

The Oak Ridge Labor-Management Prayer Breakfast committee wants to say thanks for the generosity of the participants. The 2013 prayer breakfast set a record for contributions.
