Welcome to the Oak Ridge Office Veterans Support Group

Purpose: The Veterans Organization will provide representation as appropriate for all national veterans' activities or events and coordinate recognition efforts during such time with Oak Ridge Offices (ORO) management. The group will advise and assist Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) officials and management on matters that pertain to the employment, advancement, and retention of veterans who are Department of Energy ORO Federal government employees and/or applicants for Federal service.

Veterans LogoMembership/Participation:
The VSG is open to all Federal employees with an interest in recognizing the contribution and advancing the opportunities of veterans in government. The group will select a chair and other officers as necessary on an annual basis. The VSG will select an ORO employee who provides liaison to the EEO Advisory Council as a voting member. 

Responsibilities:
Provide input in the development of the annual OR Affirmation Employment Plans for women, minorities, the physically challenged, and veterans and in the development of associated program budgets.

Provide recommendations on continuing implementation of the Departments' equal opportunity and preference policies for veterans in all areas of employment, including recruitment, hiring, placement, training, awards, promotion, retention and other terms and conditions of employment.

Identify barriers to the employment and full utilization of veterans in the ORO workforce and recommend initiatives to overcome such barriers.

Develop and/or assist in the execution of programs to commemorate the contributions for veterans in general, to recognize the contributions of ORO veterans, to increase the awareness of veterans benefits and rights, and to provide feedback to ORO management on the effectiveness and progress of ORO programs and plans affecting veterans.

The VSG reports administratively to the Assistant Director for Resource Management who is responsible for assuring that activities are reports, issues are resolved, and made at the appropriate level of ORO management.

Frequency of Meetings: 
The VSG meets at least quarterly or more frequently as required. The elected chair is responsible for establishing the time and place for the meetings and for modifying all members of such meetings. Participation in the VSG is recognized as official business and, as such, may be conducted during official duty hours.
