DOE PUBLISHES PADUCAH
ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

PADUCAH, Ky. - The Annual Site Environmental Report for the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant for calendar year 2001 is now available.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) publishes the report to present results of its environmental monitoring program, which is designed to protect plant workers, neighbors and the environment, and to comply with regulations.  The report includes highlights of DOE projects at the plant, such as environmental cleanup, waste disposition, storage of depleted uranium hexafluoride, decontamination and decommissioning of surplus facilities, and characterization and disposition of DOE material storage areas.

Original drawings by students from Heath High School illustrate the 2001 report and the separate summary volume.

DOE requires that environmental monitoring be conducted and documented for all its facilities.  The Annual Site Environmental Report (ASER) does not include information related to ongoing operations of the uranium enrichment plant, which is leased and operated by USEC Inc.

Copies of the ASER are available at the DOE Environmental Information Center, 115 Memorial Drive in the Barkley Centre, across from Paducah Community College, (270) 554-6979.  The McCracken County Public Library, at Fifth and Washington streets in downtown Paducah, has copies for review.  The document is available on the Internet at http://www.bechteljacobs.com/pad/report.htm.
