The trailer will be used by the Humane Society as a low cost spay and neutering clinic. The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), Community Reuse Organization of East Tennessee (CROET), and Bechtel Jacobs Company worked together to make the donation of the double-wide trailer possible. “This donation will allow us to establish this needed service for the residents of Roane County,” said Bud Matsinger, President of the Humane Society of Roane County. “It will also help to significantly lower the number of unwanted animals that end up in our shelters without homes and will provide us an opportunity to educate our residents on good care of their pets.” Larry Clark, Executive Director of the DOE Oak Ridge Operations Assets Utilization Program, said, “This is another example of how Reindustrialization works, even though it’s not the standard Reindustrialization definition of leasing facilities onsite. We had an unused piece of equipment that is now being put back into productive use by an organization that can greatly benefit from it.” The Humane Society of Roane County is a non profit organization serving mainly Roane County, but also offering spay/neuter assistance to pet owners in adjacent counties that do not have humane societies of their own, such as Rhea, Morgan, and Meigs Counties. The Humane Society of Roane County has provided the financial assistance necessary to have almost 1,000 pets spayed or neutered in the last 12 months. A site for this spay and neutering clinic has already been secured. For further information on the Humane Society, please call Bud Matsinger at (865) 376-2474. The Department of Energy continues to transition underutilized assets to the private sector for reuse to accelerate environmental cleanup while enhancing economic growth in the East Tennessee region. Those interested in opportunities available through the Department’s Reindustrialization program should contact Larry Clark at (865) 576-2678. -DOE- R-04-015 |
