OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – In celebration of Women’s History Month, the U.S. Department of Energy Oak Ridge Offices Federal Women’s Program, UT-Battelle, Federally Employed Women, and several other organizations are hosting a Women Change America Program on Thursday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the American Museum of Science and Energy. Three people will be the featured speakers: Selicia Leonard of DOE Oak Ridge Offices Office, Dr. Madhavi Martin of UT-Battelle, and David Ausmus of Bechtel Jacobs Company. Leonard will speak about her recent experience in Iraq as a government civilian worker for six months. She worked with Iraqi citizens to develop and unify a payroll system for the Iraqi Security Forces. Martin will speak about solving crimes using physics: forensic and environmental applications of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). She recently solved a crime for Texas law enforcement authorities using LIBS. Ausmus will speak about his 30 days at Ground Zero. He spent 30 days at Ground Zero as a safety engineer for Bechtel Jacobs, working on the World Trade Center Disaster Emergency Response Environment, Safety and Health Team. After the program, he will autograph his book, “In the Midst of Chaos – My 30 Days At Ground Zero.” Program sponsors are the DOE-ORO Federal Women’s Program, UT-Battelle, Federally Employed Women, Women in Nuclear, the American Museum of Science and Energy, and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Y-12 Site Office.
